Don't know if any remember the CF caused by the IKE evacuation. All roads, freeways, back roads - everywhere blocked with folks going no where. They had no food, no water, no gas, pathetic.

I hunkered down and had no problems at all other than a few trees down. No power for 14 days, but I had my generators.

I make these comments for your consideration as to the usefulness of a BOB, BOV, BOL and your ability to get to it. It depends on what the SHTF scenario is going to be.

My immediate preps are for hurricanes, just a matter of time. Tornadoes cause more damage, but the area is generally limited.

My thoughts, living in the back of Kingwood, is to stay put for any but an ecological disaster or refinery explosions in the ship channel that makes the area uninhabitable.

I expect that any that are still here in a SHTF that doesn't cause immediate evac is that after a week most will be out of food & probably water. After 3 months most will be gone or dead. Then I can start cultivating the useless lawns and start growing edibles.

After 6 months, I will have the whole neighborhood, if not Kingwood, mostly to me & mine. Lots of fire fuel in all these houses

It is hard to plan for all disaster scenarios, so pick a few and plan for them !! I guess most of the sheeple just don't want to survive a disaster.

My 2 cents worth !!

Good thought, BUT, in a longer tem scenario (over 3-4 weeks) Kingwood is WAY to close to major population centers (MILLIONS of souls), and you will soon be the target of hungry, vicious gangs looking for resources......

You may have alot of ammo, but unless you maintain a perimeter and have a small army of friends and neighbors, you and your resources are going to be taken from you (and most likely your life)

The ONLY way to survive a long term situation is to bug out to a rural location with water resources and dig in......

This is why I decided not to buy a 300 thou home in Kingwood with a postage stamp yard just so I could say, "look..I live here". Instead I bought the same home on almost 4 acres in a bordering county for half as much. Rural..hidden away..land for growing..my own water well. I have found three different pumps so far for getting my water out of the ground after no electricity.

Bugging out or bugging...both are viable. We have planned for both scenarios. My concern is making the RIGHT call at the RIGHT time. Bug out under the wrong conditions and you could find yourself in a Rita evac. situation, but 1000Xs more extreme. Decide to bug in and your community becomes a war zone, then you regret not leaving when you could.

Honesty, short of a nuke at the port or downtown FORCING us to leave, I'm planning on bugging in and facing what ever problems arise.

I agree. What and how will you get home with if your away and the hell starts? Do you have a get home bag for yourself with Glock?

Our mini van is stocked. I always have: our BOBs (more than 1 for family of 4), Power Bar bag w/ aptly named: Power Bars, nuts, granola, and Survival Tablets, water bottles, and other misc. survival gear; enough for 72 hours.

We're even prepared to walk home if needed. For Christmas my parents bought us a fantastic collapsible wagon that will haul up to 150 lbs.

As for self protection, I have my CCL. My .380 Keltec is always with me; either in my console, or on my person.
